Lake Chiemsee (30 km)

Palace Herrenchiemsee of Ludwig II and Fraueninsel. The Lake Chiemsee came into existence 20.000 years ago and in volume is the largest inland lake in Germany. It is therfore often known as “The Bavarian Ocean”. On the Fraueninsel the Benedictine nuns still work in their convent dating from 782. The traditional island pottery and three traditional taverns, the beer gardens, fisheries and bathing areas, as well as the famous 1000 year old linden tree, can be found along the island shoreline, which is only 1,5 km long.
