Großglockner

Großglockner (100 km)

Since 1935 the Großglockner Alpine Highway has been an incomparable experience for around 50 million visitors. This most famous of alpine roads culminates in front of the crown jewels of the Hohe Tauern National Park: Austria's highest mountain, the Großglockner (3,798 m) and largest glacier, the Pasterze.

On the way to them, you will experience a 4,000 km journey to the Arctic, for the ascent from 1,500 m to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe passes through every zone of vegetation between the cornfields at the start and the permanent ice of higher altitudes.

The numerous information stands, six nature trails and two information centres on the Glockner Highway constitute a highly modern, visual learning experience. From them you will discover what to look out for in order to enjoy your experience of the natural world of the high Alps to the full..
